Accomplished. My second detox was completed with success. No adverse reactions. I went through three full days on apples, tea and water and survived. - Again, please note: I don’t have any health problems nor am I on any medication. This is not recommended if someone is, and doesn't consult their family doctor first - We’re talking an average of ten apples a day and loads of water.

This time I had no headaches with the caffeine withdrawal (given the reduction I had in the past year, following my first attempt) and nothing other than the expected weakness and tiredness. It was a total body, mind and soul reset. It really feels like your body undergoes a total toxins flush. Once these three days have passed, having a plan in place ahead of time helps with the flow. Forget about cooking creativity. if you didn’t plan it ahead, at this stage.

I now see my annual reset as something really positive. I feel like it gives the body a chance to totally wear off and re-energise. I had no strength by the beginning of the second day. My brain had no ability to do more than the basics. I could not think any further ahead than the next couple of hours. I still stuck to my daily exercise routines and kept going.

I find that the detox helps me gain resilience in my body and mind. I feel a stronger connection to myself as I am able to gauge how much I can take under a high-nutrient withdrawal practice: watching the rest of the family eating a chicken (or beef) meal and me having to resist actually puts things in perspective, in a good way.

It was a full reset of my metabolism to make way for continued moderate and sensible eating. Rather than letting myself go to repeat or make poorer choices, eating less actually and making my stomach shrink, means I will be satisfied quicker with less (I read about this, not making it up). But we have to allow the body to slowly recover, and slowly add other nutrients. I still have not had any meat as I’m still on my first day following detox.

In the following weeks, I will be slowly reintroducing all other fruits, vegetables, oats, some cheese and finally meat, but keeping the portions sensible. Sensible for me is basically eating healthy and in portions that leave me feeling satiated, but not full. We want to avoid the food coma, especially after lunch, if we’re going back to work.

It has not been easy to keep up with it all, especially with us currently dealing with all the new house unpacking. We’ve been essentially living out of boxes, where I’m having to treasure-hunt for all the usual ingredients until everything has got a place. The main thing is to keep the mindset that helps me drive forward and some days are easier than others. The odd dark chocolate bar has been helping me keep it up without guilt.
