Checking-in, showing up

The fact that I've been posting on Instagram regularly is helping me to check in with my goals. In the end "it's all about showing up", they say, right? Keep posting, even if nobody's reading. Fake it till you make it and all that... And I am.

For me, more than about trying to build a business now, it's about self-therapy, about mental cleansing. It helps clear my head when I write things down, it makes my views sharper. And it forces me to continue doing it, like checkpoints on a video game.

I find that keeping my reading and writing exercise going helps me improve my communication and express my thoughts better. Writing is like drawing a diagram, it helps me visualize my goals better and squeeze more creative juice out. Apologies if that description was too graphic.

This self-development is needed in order to progress. As with everything else in my Universe, I stumbled across a podcast which shared the Self-Confidence formula, by Napoleon Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich (which I’ve also now ordered). All interesting stuff, to hopefully help me in my journey. And because sharing is caring, here's the printable formula.

Posting on Facebook, as a private person is not my thing, particularly if it is related to my writing. The contacts I have on Facebook are mostly personal and I feel like personal contacts tend to be more “judgy” and generally not very supportive. So I created a “business” page under my pseudonym Witty Freelancer (I like to think I’m witty). But I’m still trying to find a way to align my Facebook with my Instagram concept. I’m hoping my CPD Sunday time will give me more clarity to put that in place.

Anyway, the bottom line is I keep showing up. Yes, I get blanks. All the time. When this happens I find that taking a break and doing something else, i.e. watching a movie or Netflix series, going for a walk or even doing a house chore helps and end up coming up with something.

This week I chose a different location to help my creativity flow, I went to a library. Even wrote a special post on it. I find changes in scenery work well for me. My thoughts usually feed on my surroundings and I find the writing flows a lot better when I’m in a different environment, better yet if it’s a lovely setting. It all adds up towards the inspiration, right?
